OUR MISSION

The B. Side incubates ideas and projects of youth to foster a culture of entrepreneurship. These projects are supported through enterprise, business education and mentor relationships, which teach self-sufficiency, and the initiative in realizing their self-defined goals. Through The B. Side, youth are promoted as an asset within the local business landscape.

Let's celebrate the latest B. Side Basic graduates. On May 5th, this fine group wrapped up their course by presenting their business plans and presentation boards. From left to right (top) Howard, Johntavis, Ajia, Diamond (bottom) Ciara, Christian, Jessica and Rhianon. We congratulate them on their passion, drive and innovative spirit to become entrepreneurs, and we know that they will continue to move forward and be successful. We would also like to thank the parents that came out to see and participate in the presentation Q&A. Your support is always needed and appreciated. Thank you all!

On March 29, 2012 the Toyota Tech Center in Milan, MI and The B. Side’s program Digital Inclusion partnered for a very special event. Toyota provided a $1000 donation for the Ypsilanti High School Outreach project and Digital Inclusion matched the donation with equipment. All together there were 20 Dell Optiplex GX620’s that were given away to families in need. “The night was a huge success” said Jason Towler, Ypsilanti High School Transition Coordinator. "We saw approximately a 20% increase over the previous year and the computer giveaway was the hotest topic of the night." With this type of success, The B. Side is looking for more corporate partners for future projects. Thank you Toyota Tech Center and YHS for your support!

The B. Side youth compete again at the 7th Annual Generation E Conference in Battle Creek, MI. This is the 5th year that The B. Side has taken youth to the conference. Over the last 5 years the youth have been successful at winning multiple awards, unfortunately this year we came home empty handed. The youth that attended found it exciting and inspiring and are committed to being stronger competitors next year. Congrats to Myron, Howard and Myles for entering their business plans. They have a whole year to prepare for their success next year. Great effort guys!

We would also like to thank Cheryl Peters the Executive Director of the Generation E Institute. She has been a great supporter of our program and our youth. Thank you.

This video was one of a few that Marty Stano (The Lazerbolt, LLC) shot and put together with youth from the community for the Stop Think Connect campaign during a 3 Day B. Side of A. workshop. This 30 second PSA was entered in a Homeland Security competition. We didn't win, but we received great reviews.
